Motherhood and faith are profound aspects of life that shape us in numerous ways. The journey towards understanding these two pillars of existence is not always straightforward. It often demands resilience, sacrifice, and a heart filled with unconditional love. In our latest podcast episode, we engaged author Dorian L Evans in a rich discussion about her inspiring book, Understanding My Assignment.
Dorian's story is one of strength and resilience, as she redefines what it means to be a 'champion' in the context of motherhood. Her interpretation of a champion isn't about winning a battle or attaining victory in a competitive environment. Instead, it's about individuals who keep going despite the challenges and obstacles they face, especially as parents. She emphasizes the importance of nurturing children's interests, thereby promoting their unique strengths and abilities.
A key theme that surfaced during our conversation was the profound influence fathers have on their daughters' lives. Dorian courageously shares her experience of having to leave her marriage for her daughter's sake, highlighting the importance of prioritizing our children's well-being over societal expectations. The courage and faith she demonstrated during this arduous journey underscore the deep dimensions of faith in our lives.
Our conversation also navigated the norms and expectations society thrusts upon parents. Society often dictates a rigid framework for parenting, pressuring parents to conform to certain standards. However, as Dorian points out, every child is unique, and our approach to parenting should reflect this individuality. She suggests going with the flow of things and not pushing children into greatness because of one's own desires.
The importance of faith during trials and tribulations was a recurring theme in our discussion. Dorian shared how faith has been her beacon during difficult times. She believes that prayer and faith can help parents accept their situations and find better paths. In her view, the power of prayer and faith can light our paths during arduous times.
Our conversation wasn't just about motherhood and faith, but also about life's assignments. Understanding our assignments in life often requires us to question societal norms and redefine our perspectives. As we celebrate the complexities and joys of being a parent, we discover our unique journey towards understanding. This podcast episode is an invitation to all parents to embrace their unique journey and learn from the wisdom shared by Dorian L Evans.

Dorian is just simply amazing. Thru all she endured she has the courage to continue on pursuing her dreams while allowing her main focus( her children) not to fall under or fold. Her story is one of triumph and failure. One can’t have one with out the other and her determination would always allow for her to find a way for her always overcome adversity. Parenting is difficult and we all need some advice or just someone to let us know we not alone in our struggles. I’m beyond privileged to call her my friend..
Life is hard how anyone thinks they can make it without faith and God’s Grace is beyond me. Dorian’s book is inspired by what she has been thru and how she found a way to navigate thru life making choices that she feels were best for her and her children. With those truths she can say with confidence she did her best. This is the question every parent should asks themselves. It’s wonderful to see young women of faith coming together and sharing their stories to encourage others
Dorian is an amazing example to women and mothers. She shows perseverance and grace in the constant evolution of the world of parenting. Many times in parenting we have a plan or semblance of a plan. However children are driving their own bus. Sometimes we want to force a child to be something. It takes real courage to allow them to choose. At the same time we have to be diligent in framing it for them. Dorian has a great heart and genuine love for her family. Everyday is different but in the constant struggle for happiness and self love becomes a mere construct of dreams and optimism. I’m glad she has decided to write a book. Most of us talk about it, but never fully press for that goal. Continue to press forward Dorian. Remain beautifully amazing both inside and out.
